Foreign NGO official held on bribery charge

LASHKARGAH (PANinfo-icon): An Afghan official working for a foreign non-governmental organisation (NGO) was arrested on bribery charges in southern Helmand province on Wednesday, an official said.

Mohammad Rassoul, working for Afghanistaninfo-icon Reconstructioninfo-icon and Development (ARD), allegedly received $25,000 (1,230,000 afs) in bribe from a contractor in return for accepting low-quality seeds.

Provincial National Directorate of Security (NDSinfo-icon) chief, Gen. Nazar Ali Wahidi, said Rassoul was currently being interrogated.

Speaking to reporters at the NDS office in Lashkargah, the provincial capital, Rassoul confessed to taking the bribe from the contractor.
