Hezb-i-Islami to name presidential candidate

KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): The pro-government Hezb-i-Islamiinfo-icon party on Thursday decided to field its candidate in the presidential election due next year.

The decision came at a meeting of the party’s executive council, Hezb-i-Islami spokesman Abdullah Kamawal told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said that senior party leaders, including Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon Speaker Abdur Rauf Ibrahimi, Agricultureinfo-icon Minister Mohammad Asif Rahimi and Economy Minister Abdul Hadi Arghandiwal attended the meeting.

Among others, former Paktia governor Juma Khan, some sitting governors, dozens of parliamentarians, ex-jihadi commanders and tribal elders were in attendance.

Kamawal said the participants had agreed on constituting a commission for the nomination of its presidential candidate. The commission will consult party representatives across the country before taking a decision in this regard.
