SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): A 35-member group of militants joined the peace process, surrendering their weapons to security personnel in the northern province of Jawzjan, an official said on Thursday.

Head of the peace committee, Maulviinfo-icon Mohammad Akram, told Pajhwok Afghan News the group had been active in Robatak area on Samangan-Baghlan highway over the past five years.

“We witnessed that Talibaninfo-icon committing disruptive acts including looting and insulting people after gaining control of Kunduz,” he said, adding the Kunduz attacked made the group to hate the Taliban and join the peace process.

Ali Mohammad, one of the group members, said he was a school student, but joined the Taliban due to poverty. But later he decided to join the peace process after realising that he was part of a terrorist outfit.
