150 quake-affected families assisted in Nangarhar

JALALABAD (Pajhwok):  The Bayat Foundation, a relief organisation, on Friday distributed food and non-food items among 150 quake-affected families in Kama district of eastern Nangarhar province, the foundation said.

The 7.5 magnitude quake killed 115 people and injured 556 in nine Afghan provinces, damaging 7630 houses, 20 Masajid and nine government buildings on Monday, according to Afghanistaninfo-icon National Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA) officials.

Up to 28 people were killed, 179 wounded and 1085 houses were destroyed in Nangarhar province by the disaster.

The families in Kama district were distributed blankets, tents, tarpaulins, and food items after a survey, the foundation’s deputy head, Haji Ismael, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

A resident of the district whose house was destroyed by the tremble, Sher Wali, thanked the Bayat Foundation for the aid but said they needed more assistance.

“Like us, the houses of many other people have destroyed in the quake. We fear our children may fall sick due to cold weather. The government should help us,” he said.

According to Ismael, the foundation intends to distribute aid in other areas of the province, in neighbouring Kunar province and other parts of the country.
