Ghani holds fruitful meetings with Azerbaijan leaders

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani held fruitful talks with Azerbaijan’s prime minister, chairman of parliament and heads of business firms during his visit to Baku, the Presidential Palace said on Wednesday.

Ghani discussed strengthening relations between Afghanistaninfo-icon and Azerbaijan during his meeting with Prime Minister Artur Rasizade, a statement from the president’s office said.

The president stressed the need for strong links between the parliaments of the two countries during his meeting with the chairman of Azerbaijani national assembly, Ogtay Asadov Sabir Oglu.

Asadov said” I am happy with the strengthening of ties between the two countries. Bilateral relations would be boosted further as a result of your visit … we wish Afghanistan to support our stance at different international fora.”

The president assured Afghanistan would support Azerbaijan’s legitimate demands at international gatherings. He said that the constructive role of Azerbaijani parliament was appreciated by the Afghans.

Ghani also invited the lawmaker to send a delegation of Azeri MPs to Afghanistan, the statement said, hoping interaction between public representatives would help improve Kabul-Baku cooperation.

Speaking to representatives of trade companies in Baku, Ghani spotlighted investment opportunities in Afghanistan’s infrastructure development, energy, construction, agricultureinfo-icon, cement production, copper, steal, as well as gas and fuel extractions.

Ghani would talk to the Worldinfo-icon Bank regarding the removal of possible hurdles to investment in Afghanistan and would offer insurance and protection to entrepreneurs.

The Azeri businessmen evinced a keen interest in Afghanistan in the sphere of construction, copper, infrastructure, optic fiber and energy sectors.

The two sides agreed on cooperation between Azerbaijan Television and Radio Broadcasting Closed Joint-Stock Company and the National Radio Television of Afghanistan. The Memorandum of Understanding in this regard was signed between Arif Alishanov and Sultan Ahmad Bahen.
