6 dead as back-to-back blasts hit train in Balochistan

Oct 07, 2016 - 14:35

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): At least six people were killed and 17 others injured on Friday when two back-to-backs explosions ripped through a passenger train in Pakistaninfo-icon’s southwestern Balochistan province.

The coordinated blasts targeting railway tracks hit the Rawalpindi-bound Jaffar Express in the Ab-i-Gum area of Bolan district. The explosions took place in the same area 20 minutes apart.

Senior Pakistan Railway official Hameed Gul told journalists: "There was another blast after the first one at the same spot." The injured were evacuated to Quetta, where an emergency has been declared at all state-run hospitals.

It was not immediately clear whether the bombs were planted on the track or inside the train, which was travelling to the garrison city of Rawalpindi from Quetta.

Meanwhile, Balochistan Chief Minister Sanaullah Zehri condemned the attack and directed the provincial police chief to conduct an inquiry and submit his findings.
