11 insurgents join peace process in Badakhshan

FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Local officials on Tuesday said 11 Talibaninfo-icon militants had joined the peace process in northeastern Badakhshan province.

Police spokesmanMassoud Arshadtold Pajhwok Afghan News the group, led by CommanderBahauddin shunned the insurgency in Shuhada district.

He said the militants had joined the peace process as a result of efforts by the police headquarters.The men also surrendered a rocket launcher and 10 Kalashnikovs.

A number of other militants would likely quit the insurgency in the near future, he hoped. Eighty-three rebels have joined the reconciliation drive in Badakhshan this year.
