Logar clash leaves 3 dead, 11 injured

PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Three Talibaninfo-icon militants were killed during clash with security forces in the Baraki Barak district of central Logar province, an official said Monday.

Seven civilians and four Afghan National Army (ANA) troops were injured in the clash that occurred late on Sunday, the district chief, Mohammad Rahim Amin, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The clash took place in Pul Jogi and Mahmand areas of the district and the civilians were injured in Taliban firing, he said.

Ibrahim, a resident of Pul Jogi area, said: “A mortar shell hit a house and injured two children and a woman.”

He said both the Taliban and Afghan forces suffered casualties in the clash and Afghan forces were still operating in the area, 15 kilometers south of Pul-i-Alam, the provincial capital.

A statement from the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said four Taliban militants were killed and seven others were injured in the Baraki Barak clash.

It said around 300 kilograms of explosives and some weapons were also confiscated by Afghan forces in the area.

However, Taliban rejected their casualties. The group’s spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid said seven security personnel were killed in the clash.
